GPSBabel

There are numerous types of GPS devices on the market. Some of them are used only by car drivers, others are used by cyclists and so on. There are situations in which a user has two different GPS devices and would like to transfer the data from one to the other. Normally, this is not possible, as each device has its own type of data file. But when using the GPSBabel application, transferring data from a device to the other becomes possible.

That's because GPSBabel allows you to convert data files for most GPS devices, from a format to another. After installing the application, the user will be presented with an intuitive interface, which allows him to easily convert GPS files from a format to another.

The first thing to do is to define the format of the first GPS data file. There are numerous formats to choose from, as GPSBabel supports virtually all the file formats used by GPS devices. One can either configure the path to the data file, or he can just connect the program directly to the GPS device and retrieve the data file automatically. Still, this feature is only supported for selected GPS models.

Next, the user should choose the output format for the GPS data file. Again, he can set the path for saving the data file or he can connect GPSBabel to the output GPS device and upload the file to it directly. After configuring all these options, the conversion process can begin and, in very little time, the user will have a GPS data file which will be perfectly compatible with the output device.
